Belt students will be able to…
- Be familiar with all of the basic training
methods in karate class and understand class protocol
- Understand the Shorin-Ryu philosophy/principles
for self-defense, blocks, strike and kicks
- Have memorized the basic karate movements,
and be able to execute them generally correctly
- Perform effective self-defense in rudimentary
situations
- Work with a partner in formal exercises
- Practice techniques on their own, and
be willing to build strength and endurance
Green Belt students
will be able to …
- Perform basic karate techniques, sets and kata with proper
form (not necessarily speed)
- Take corrections from the instructor and make corrections in
form
- Focus on improving form and coordination of the entire body
- Focus on and keep proper form while tired
- Work with a partner while keeping proper form and timing
- Perform basic semi-advanced techniques with generally correct
form
- Perform effective self-defense against an unarmed untrained
or semi-trained attacker
- Show rudimentary spontaneous application of skills
Brown Belt students
will be able to …
- Perform basic karate techniques, sets and kata with proper
form, speed and targeting
- Take corrections from instructors and be able to apply corrections
in concept
- Work with a partner while keeping proper form, timing and exact
targeting/distance at speed
- Perform semi-advanced techniques with generally correct form,
timing, distance, etc.
- Demonstrate superior endurance
- Focus on opponent while performing technique properly at speed
- Perform effective spontaneous self-defense against a well-trained
unarmed attacker
- Perform continuous spontaneous interactions with high-quality
karate technique
Black Belt students will be able to …
- Perform basic and semi-advanced karate
techniques with superior quality and proper application
- Be able to learn, memorize and perform
advanced karate technique quickly
- Demonstrate proper form, speed, targeting,
control, etc. in kata and all partner drills
- Perform effective self-defense against
multiple skilled unarmed attackers or an armed attacker
- Focus on strategy and global awareness
while executing superior quality karate techniques
- Demonstrate focus on opponent and perform
quality/effective technique under extreme conditions
- Show highly effective spontaneous application
of skills
